| area | the measure of the interior of a 2D figure |
| center | the point from which all points on a circle are the same distance |
| circle | the set of all points in a plane that are the same distance from a given point called the center |
| circumference | the distance around a circle |
| composite figure | a figure that is made up of 2 or more shapes |
| composite solid | an object made up of 2 or more soilds |
| cone | a 3D figure with one circular base connected by a curved surface to a single point |
| cylinder | a 3D figure with 2 parallel congruent circular bases connected by a curved surface |
| diameter | the distance across a circle through its center |
| face | a flat surface of a polyhedron |
| hemisphere | one of 2 congruent halves of a sphere |
| lateral face | in a polyhedron, a face that is not a base |
| pi | the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter. The Greek letter π represents this number. the value of pi is 3.1415926.... Approximations for pi are 3.14 or 22/7 |
| prism | a polyhedron with 2 parallel congruent faces called bases |
| pyramid | a polyhedron with one base that is a polygon and three or more triangular faces that meet at a common vertex |
| radius | the distance from the center of a circle to any point on the circle |
| regular pyramid | a pyramid whose base is a regular polygon and in which the segment from the vertex to the center of the base is the altitude |
| semicircle | half of a circle. the formula for the area of a semicircle is A=1/2πr² |
| slant height | the height of each lateral face |
| sphere | the set of all points in space that are a given distance from a given point called the center |
| surface area | the sum of the areas of all the surfaces{faces} of a 3D figure |
| volume | the measure of the space occupied by a solid. standard units of measure are cubic units such as in cubed or ft cubed |
