| Efficacy: | a measurement of how efficient the light source is in converting electrical energy to lumens of visible light. Measured in lumens per watt (LPW). |
| Footcandle: | a unit of light that falls on a surface one foot from a standard candle. |
| Glare: | excessive brightness from a light source which makes it difficult to see. |
| Kelvin: | the measurement scale used to determine the warmth or coolness of a lamp. |
| Lamp: | a glass envelope from which light is emitted, known as a lightbulb. |
| Lumen: | a measurement of the amount and brightness of light produced by a light source. |
| Lux: | a unit of illuminance or light that falls on a surface. One lux is equal to one lumen per square foot. |
| Soffit | : a lowered portion of the ceiling which usually hides some construction detail such as pipes or heating and cooling ductwork. |
| Volt: | the force of electricity in a power line. |
| Watt: | a measurement of the amount of electricity used. |
