Seasons

Earth Science

QuestionAnswer
Season – Season – One of the four parts of the year (spring, summer, fall, winter) caused by Earth’s tilt and movement around the Sun.
Hemisphere – Half of the Earth. The Earth has the Northern Hemisphere and the Southern Hemisphere.
Axis Tilt – The slant of Earth on its axis. Earth is tilted about 23.5°, which causes the seasons.
Distance – The amount of space between two objects, such as the Earth and the Sun.
Translation – The movement of Earth as it travels around the Sun. This is also called revolution.
Rotation – The spinning of Earth on its axis. One full rotation takes 24 hours and causes day and night.
Spring Equinox – The first day of spring when day and night are almost equal in length.
Fall Equinox – The first day of fall when day and night are almost equal in length.
Winter Solstice – The first day of winter and the shortest day of the year.
Summer Solstice – The first day of summer and the longest day of the year.
