Holocaust 8A List 1

QuestionAnswer
genocide The deliberate, systematic murder of an entire political, cultural, racial, or religious group (the term was first used in 1944)
scapegoat A person, group, or thing unfairly blamed, punished, or made to bear the guilt for the faults, mistakes, or misdeeds of others
antisemitism Prejudice or discrimination against Jews — dislike, fear, and persecution of Jews.
Aryan A term used by the Nazis to describe a supposed "master race" of non-Jewish Caucasians, usually having Nordic (blonde hair and blue eyes) features.
propoganda Information, especially of a biased or misleading nature, used to promote a particular political cause or point of view
deportation Forced legal removal of an unwanted person from a place (example: Jews in Nazi-occupied countries were forced from their homes.)
dehumanization The act of degrading people and stripping them of their human rights
pogrom Organized violence against Jews, often with the support of the government
ghetto A confined area of a city where Jews were forced to live in crowded, miserable conditions.
atrocity an extremely cruel, wicked, or shocking act, frequently used to describe large-scale violence against civilians during war
