dynamic ecosystem

| biosphere | the parts of Earth and the surrounding atmosphere where there is life. |
| population | all the organisms of the same species that live in the same area at the same time. |
| species | a group of organisms that have similar traits and are able to produce fertile offspring. |
| community | all the populations living in an ecosystem at the same time. |
| limiting factor | a factor that can limit the growth of a population |
| biotic potential | the potential growth of a population if it could grow in perfect conditions with no limiting factors. |
| carrying capacity | the largest number of individuals of one species that an ecosystem can support over time. |
| overpopulation | condition that occurs when a population becomes so large that it causes damage to the environment. |
| symbosis | a close, long-term relationship between two species that usually involves an exchange of food or energy. |
| commensalidsm | a symbiotic relationship that benefits one species but does not harmor benefit the other. |
| parastisitm | a symbiotic relationship in which one organism benefits and the other is harmed. |
| mutualism | a symbiotic relationship in which both organisms benefit. |
| ecological succession | the process of one ecological community gradually changing into another. |
| climax community | a stable community that no longer goes through major ecological changes. |
| eutrophication | the process of a body of water becoming nutrient-rich |
| dynamic equilibrium | describes the balance between different parts of the ecosystem |
