TermDefinition
Asexual reproduction Involves a single parent.
Crossing-over is the exchange of genetic material between homologous chromosomes.
Diploid A cell which means that it has twice the number of chromosomes as a gamete.
Egg Female gametes.
Fertilization The process in which two gametes unite.
Gamete Reproductive cells.
Gametogenesis The development of haploid cells into gametes.
Haploid They contain only half the number of chromosomes found in other cells of the organism.
Independent assortment different chromosomes segregate independently of each other.
Life cycle This series of life stages and events that a sexually reproducing organism goes through.
Meiosis A type of cell division in which the number of chromosomes is reduced by half.
Sexual reproduction Involves two parents.
Sperm Male gametes.
Zygote The process in which two gametes unite is called fertilization.
