How can ethical nearsightedness be overcome? By using moral imagination, which is envisioning all possibilities that can stem from a situation to solve an ethical concern.
What is rationalization in communication ethics? The human tendency to base decisions on personal interests, which cannot withstand critical evaluation by others because it is not based on general truth.
What is Intellectual Property? Creations of the mind such as inventions, designs, brand names, and literary and artistic works.
Give the 2 main categories of Intellectual Property. Industrial property and Copyrights and neighboring rights.
Give at least 3 examples of Industrial property. Patents, trademarks, geographic indications, utility models, industrial designs, topographies of integrated circuits, and trade secrets.

What agency was established by RA 8293? The Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL).
According to the IP Code, how are inventions, utility models/industrial designs, and artistic works protected? Inventions by patents; utility models and industrial designs by registration; and artistic works by copyright.
Give at least 3 benefits of a registered Intellectual Property. Exclusive rights, market leverage, legal protection, and increased value.
What is a Patent? A right granted to a patent owner by the State for a product, process, or an improvement, in exchange for the full disclosure of the invention.
Give the 3 basic criteria for an invention to be granted a patent. Novelty (newness), Inventive step (not obvious to a knowledgeable person), and Industrial applicability (useful).
How long is a patent protected? 20 years from the filing date of the application.
What type of intellectual property is also known as a "petty patent"? Utility Models.
How long is the protection period for Utility Models? 7 years, without renewal.
What is an Industrial Design? A composition of lines, colors, or three-dimensional forms which serve as a pattern for industrial products or handicrafts.
How long is the protection period for an Industrial Design? 5 years, renewable for 2 consecutive periods of 5 years.
What is the Layout Design of Circuits? The topography of circuits utilized in microchips and semiconductor chips for manufacturing.
How long is the protection period for the Layout Design of Circuits? 10 years, without renewal.
What are Trademarks? Marks that may consist of words, names, signatures, acronyms, etc., used to indicate source, guarantee quality, or for advertising.
How long is the protection period for a registered trademark? 10 years, renewable for succeeding periods of 10 years.
What is a Copyright? A right used to prohibit or authorize the reproduction or copying of literary or artistic works.
What are the two types of rights under a Copyright? Economic rights (financial reward) and Moral rights (claim authorship).
What is the duration of copyright protection for literary or artistic works? The lifetime of the author and 50 years after their death.
When is copyright infringement committed under Philippine laws? When there is a violation of any of the exclusive economic or moral rights of the copyright owner.
What are the specific penalties for copyright infringement under Philippine law? Imprisonment of 1 to 3 years and a fine of Php 50,000 to 150,000.
