population size the number of individuals in a group
population density how many individuals live in a certain space
population dispersion how individuals are spread out in an area
growth rate how fast a population is growing or shrinking
exponential growth very fast population growth
logistic growth population growth that slows down when there's not enough resources
carrying capacity the most individuals an area can support
density dependent factor a problem that happens more when the population is big (like disease)
density independent factor a problem that happens no matter how big the population is (like a flood)
eutrophication too many nutrients in water causing too much algae to grow
competition when living things fight for the same resources
niche a living thing's role or job in its environment
mutualism a relationship where both living things are helped
parasitism a relationship where one is helped and one is harmed
commensalism a relationship where one is helped and the other is not hurt
symbiosis a close relationship between two living things.
invasive species a non-native species that harms the environment
keystone species a very important species that many others depend on.
global warming Earth getting hotter because of too much greenhouse gases
ATP/ADP molecules that store and give energy in cells
products the result or what comes out of a chemical reaction
reactants the things you start with in a chemical reaction
photosynthesis when plants use sunlight to make their own food
biomagnification harmful chemicals getting stronger as they move up the food chain
greenhouse effect heat trapped in Earth's atmosphere by gases
fermentation making energy without oxygen
cellular respiration how cells break down food to get energy
