| Sovereignty | Independence. |
| Colony | Territory that is legally tied to a sovereign state rather than being completely independent. |
| City State | Sovereign state that comprises of a town and surrounding country side. |
| Largest State | Russia. |
| Smallest State | Monaco. |
| Microstates | States with very small land areas. |
| Embassy | Represents a gov't with ambassadors; headquarters for a diplomatic mission in a foreign capital. |
| Colonialism | Effort by one country to establish in a territory to impose its political, economic, and cultural principles on that territory. |
