Aspects of tinnitus Tinnitus is the perception of sound when no actual external noise is present - laterality - origin - sound - symptom
Tinnitus. sounds - Metallic ringing - Buzzing/hissing - Blowing - Roaring - Clanging - Popping or nonrhythmic beating - crickets
objective tinnitus May be caused by vascular differences, TMJ, repetitive muscle contractions - very rare
Subjective tinnitus - most common type of tinnitus bu not much is understood - hearing level/changes/differences - some people have it constantly, others have it a few minutes or hours per day, more than once a week.
Causes of tinnitus - precise etiology is generally unknown and can very - most people who have tinnitus have some type of difference in the auditory system
Tinnitus and Ménière's disease Characterized by: - low frequency hearing loss - tinnitus (roaring) - Aural fullness - vertigo
sound treatment/acoustic therapy - masking machines - amplification - combination instruments (HA + sound generator)
