TermDefinition
Genre A genre is a group or category of stories that share similar features, like how they are written or what they are about.
Fiction Fiction is a made‑up story that comes from the author’s imagination and is not real.
Non‑fiction Non‑fiction is writing that is based on real people, real events, and true facts.
Poetry Poetry is a type of writing that uses rhythm, strong feelings, and imaginative language to express ideas or emotions.
Drama Drama is a story written to be acted out, with characters speaking and showing emotions on stage.
Autobiography An autobiography is a true story about someone’s life written by that person.
Memoir A memoir is a type of autobiography that focuses on important memories or experiences instead of an entire life.
Biography A biography is a true story about a person’s life written by someone else.
Science Fiction Science fiction is a type of fictional story that deals with the future, advanced technology, space, or scientific ideas.
Dystopian Fiction Dystopian fiction shows a dark or unfair society where people are controlled or treated badly, often to warn readers about real problems.
Historical Fiction Historical fiction is a made‑up story set in the past that includes real historical events or time periods.
Realistic Fiction Realistic fiction tells stories that could actually happen in real life, even though the characters are made up.
