| suspicious | inclined to suspect, especially inclined to suspect evil; distrustful |
| inveigled | to entice, lure, or ensnare by flattery or artful talk or inducements (usually followed by into) |
| dubious | doubtful; marked by or occasioning doubt |
| magistrate | a civil officer charged with the administration of the law |
| preternatural | out of the ordinary course of nature; exceptional or abnormal |
