1081.01 Every employer shall at his own expenses furnish his workers with protective equipment for the eyes, face, hands and feet, protective shields and barriers whenever necessary by reason of the hazardous nature of the process or environment
1081.02 all protective equipment shall be of approved design and construction appropriate for the exposure and the work to be performed
1081.03 the employer shall be responsible for the adequacy and proper maintenance of personal protective equipment used in his workplace
1081.04 no personal shall be subjected or exposed to hazardous environmental condition without protection
Safety hat is a device that provides head protection against impact from falling objects and protection against electrocution.
Class "A" or "G" in additional to impact and penetration resistance, provide electrical protection form low voltage conductors proof tested to 2200 volts
Class "B" or "E" in addition to impact and penetration resistance provide electrical protection from high voltage conductors proof tested to 20,000 volts
Class "C" provide impact and penetration protection but does not provide electrical insulation
1082.02 According to Rule ____, "Eye and face protective equipment shall conform to the following minimum requirements"
Safety spectacles or glasses primary protective devices intended to shield the wearer's eyes from flying and striking objects, glare, and injurious radiation hazards
Goggles are primary protective devices intended to fit the face immediately surrounding the eyes
Face shields intended to shield the wearer's face, or portions thereof from striking objects, or chemical, heat, and glare hazard
Arm's Length Rule if two people have to raise their voices or shout to be heard over a distance or less than an arm's length from each other, the sound level is potentially hazardous
Hearing protection the prevention of excessive noise exposure is the only way to avoid hearing damage
Earplugs devices placed inside the ear to blockout noise. To work effectively, they should snugly into the ear canal
Earmuffs a device composed of a headbank with two cushioned ear cups that form a seal aroundd the outer ear, covering it completely and locking out the noise
Respiratory protection is required when engineering improvements and administrative controls can't elimite the risk
Contaminants which are divided into four types, gaseous, particulate, combination of gaseous and particulate and oxygen deficiency
Gaseous contaminants includes gases and vapors
Particulate contaminants include dust, fumes, mist, fog, and smoke
Combination contaminants usually consist of gaseous materials and particulates and result from operations such as paint spraying
Oxygen-deficient atmospheres are those that have less than 19.5 percent by volume
Particulate respirators or mechanical filters screen out dust, fog, fumes, mist spray, or smoke. such filters need to be replaced at frequent intervals
Chemical cartridge devices remove contaminants by passing the contaminated air through materials that traps the harmful portions
Self-contained are those where the air supply is easily transportable and they protect against toxic gases and lack of oxygen.
Supplied-air respirators get air through an airline or hose. The breathable air is supplied by an air compressor or uncontaminated ambient air
Hand and arm protection is required when workers' hands are exposed to hazards such as harmful substances that can be absorbed by the skin, severe cuts, or lacerations, severe abrasions, chemical burns, thermal burns, and temperature extremes
Gloves are often relied upon to prevent cuts, abrasion, burns, and skin contact with chemicals that are capable of causing local or systematic effects following dermal exposure
Metal mesh leather or canvas gloves provide protection against cuts, burns, and sustained heat
Fabric and coated fabric gloves these gloves are made of cotton or other fabric to provide varying degrees of protection
Chemical and liquid-resistant gloves gloves made of rubber, plastic, or synthetic rubber-like materials such as neoprene protect workers from burns, irritation, and dermatitis caused by contact with oils, greases, solvents, and other chemicals
Conductive shoes protect against the buildup of static electricity or equalize the eletrical potential between personnel and the ground. These shoes should be worn only for the specific task(s) for which they are designed, and should be removed at task completion and not
Electrical hazard safety shoes are nonconductive and protect against open circuits of 600 volts or less under dry conditions
Fall or travel restraint system is an assembly composed of body belt and proper accessories that prevent a worker from travelling to an edge where the occurrence of a fall may happen.
Fall arrest system are designed to minimize stress forces on an employee's body in the event of a fall, while providing sufficient freedom of movement to allow work to be performed.
Torso/Full Body Protection must be provided for employees if they are threatened with bodily injury of one kind or another while performing their jobs
Paper-like fiber disposable suits made of this material provide protection against and splashes
Treated wool and cotton adapts well to changing workplace temperatures and is comfortable as well as fire-resistant
Duck this closely woven fabric protects employees against cuts and bruises while they handle heavy, sharp, and rought materials
Leather leather protective clothing is often used against dry heat and flame
Rubberized fabrics, neoprene, and plastics protective clothing made from these materials protect against certain acids and other materials
Maintenance program all equipment must be inspected periodically before and after use
1080 requires employers to provide appropriate PPE to workers.
