QuestionAnswer
What does every EMS system have? A director.
What is indirect medical control? Protocols.
What is direct medical control? Direct support from a physician. EPOS.
What is abandonment? Leaving a patient, terminating care without the patient's consent.
Do you have a duty to act? Yes, you cannot refuse giving care.
Can a patient refuse care? Yes, a competent patient can refuse care. (Don't forget to document everything!)
What are the four principles of ethics? Autonomy, beneficence, non-malfeasance, justice.
What are four factors that triggers stress for most people? Loss of loved one, personal injury or illness, major life event, job-related stress
When should you practice hand hygiene? After patient care actions, after every call.
What are the four main categories of your well being as a responder? Physical health, mental health, spiritual health, emotional health.
What is the chain of infection? Infectious agent > reservoir > portal of exit > mode of transmission > portal of entry > susceptible host
What should you do if a patient asks you to look at a bloody tissue or another bodily fluid? Ask them to describe it to you rather than go look. Only look if absolutely necessary to reduce the chance of coming into contact with an infectious agent.
What type of stress is it, if you get stuck in a flight or fight response for an extended period of time? Chronic stress
Should you tell or ask a patient when you are going to do a procedure? Ask them, and ensure to explain why they need it.
What is implied consent? When an adult is unconscious or too ill to consent to emergency life-saving treatments, their consent is implied.
What is the scope of practice? It is the care that a health care provider is allowed to perform according to their license/certification.
Are you allowed to leave your scope of practice? No.
