1858-61 58' republicans choose lincoln to run for senate, he looses to douglas, in 59' john brown uses violence to rebel against slavery at harpers ferry, forced to surrender by lee, in 60' lincoln runs for president and wins, in 61' kansas becomes a free state

1863 in 63' the gettysburg battle, bloodiest battle ever, union won but lost many,battle of vivksburg, lies on missisippi river, capturing vicksburg would have given the union control of the river, heavily defended but confederates surrender on july 4th
1864 1: andersonville pow camp opens(terrible camp), 2: union captures meridian(big storage space, sad loss to conf.)3: the CSS hunley sinks USS houstotonic(sinks in process, very special firts sub to sink army ship in battle)
1865 13th ammendment radified (abolish slavery) and confederacy falls, transportation problrms,starvation, disease, very good union blockades

1876 battle of little bighorn between indian tribes led by sitting bull and the US armys 7th calvary led by custer. big indian win
1898 spanish- american war, the USS maine sinks and the US think spain did it, they are the enemy now and we go to war. teddy rosevelt establishes the rough riders and spain is defeated and america wins!
1895 stephen crane publishes the red badge of courage about a union private who flees battle and is ashamed, wants red badge, (blood) to prove he isnt scared, this very realistically portrays war
1862 homestead act, any adult citezen who moved and lived on the frontier land and grew it and settled for 5years could have it for free
1860-90 wild west era, cowboys, outlaws, indians, pioneers
