Natural Selection

TermDefinition
natural selection The process where some force in nature "chooses" which individuals in a population survive and reproduce.
artificial selection The process by which humans choose which creatures reproduce based on desirable traits.
adaptation Any structure or behavior that helps a creature survive or reproduce.
mutations (in natural selection) Random changes in DNA that can make new variations.
variation Differences in traits among individuals in a population.
overproduction When organisms produce more offspring than can survive in their environment, leading to competition for resources.
selection A pressure that favors some traits over others.
