Natural Selection
| Term | Definition |

| natural selection | The process where some force in nature "chooses" which individuals in a population survive and reproduce. |
| artificial selection | The process by which humans choose which creatures reproduce based on desirable traits. |
| adaptation | Any structure or behavior that helps a creature survive or reproduce. |
| mutations (in natural selection) | Random changes in DNA that can make new variations. |
| variation | Differences in traits among individuals in a population. |
| overproduction | When organisms produce more offspring than can survive in their environment, leading to competition for resources. |
| selection | A pressure that favors some traits over others. |
