Unit 6 Math

Contains study guide for test

QuestionAnswer
How do you multiply with negative numbers? Ignore the negative signs. Multiply normally. Then count the negative signs. Odd=Negative answer. Even=Positive answer.
What happens if you multiply by -1? The number changes to its opposite.
What happens if you multiply by 1? The number stays the same.
What happens if you multiply by 0? The numbers changes to 0.
What is a coefficient? A number attached to a variable.
What is the coefficient if the variable doesn't have one? The coefficient becomes 1.
Before identifying the coefficient, what should you do? Use keep-change-opp.
What are the steps of like terms? First do keep-change-opp. Then combine terms with the same variable. Lastly, combine constants.
What are the steps of using rates? First start with the answer unit in the numerator of the first fraction. Then set up the fractions so they cross simplify. Next multiply straight across. Lastly, divide the numerator by the denominator.
What are conversion rates used for? They are used to convert one unit of measure to another.
What is a conversion rate equal to? They are equal to 1.
How do you solve two step equations? First you add the opposite of the constant to both sides to create a zero pair. Then divide both sides by the coefficient. If the coefficient is a fraction, multiply by its reciprocal.
How do you prep an equation? Keep-change-opp, distributive property, and combining like terms.
How do you know what the coefficient is from a word problem? You know because the coefficient is a rate. It uses words like per, every, and each.
How do you know what the constant is from a word problem? You know because the constant is a set number.
How do you know what the result is from a word problem? You know because it is the total. Most of the time it is the biggest number.
How do you solve two step inequalities? Use the same steps as a two step equation. If the coefficient is negative, reverse the inequality sign.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
