Ecology definitions

| ecosystem | is a group of clearly distinguished organisms that interact with their environment as a unit. |
| population | is all the members of the same species living in an area. e.g. a population of rabbits, a population of foxes etc. |
| Biodiversity | is the variety of species that exists in a specific area. |
| Conservation | is the wise management (or preservation or protection) of the environment in order to maintain biodiversity and prevent extinctions. |
| carrying capacity | The carrying capacity of an ecosystem is the maximum population size that can be supported by the available resources in the ecosystem. |
| Predation | s the killing and eating of an organism from another species. The predator is the organism that kills and eats. The prey is the organism that is killed and eaten |
