| Runes | Mysterious symbols used for writing or magic spells. |
| Flummox | To totally confuse someone, like getting many spelling words wrong. |
| Gnash | To grind teeth together, often when angry. |
| Antiquity | Something very old, from a long time ago. |
| Subterranean | Hidden underground, like a secret tunnel. |
| Proverb | A wise saying or short story with a lesson. |
| Plunder | To steal things by force, especially by pirates. |
| Palpitate | When your heart beats really fast, like when nervous. |
| Incantation | The special words a wizard says to cast a magic spell. |
| Shirk | To avoid doing work or chores. |
| Deception | A lie or trick meant to fool someone. |
| Stark | Bare and plain, with nothing fancy. |
