RAD 107 exam 1

QuestionAnswer
What is the operating console? Controls kVp (beam energy), mA (quantity), time, AEC
What is line voltage compensator? stabilizes incoming power
What is high voltage generator? Converts low voltage to high voltage for X-ray tube
What are teh disadvantages of the three phase equipment? -expensive -complex maintenance -high patient dose if not adjusted properly
What is the Formula for calculating high voltage generator power? kW= (kVp•mA)/1000
What is Arcing? Electrical discharge inside tube (tube failure )
What is the rotating anode? Spins to spread heat (prevents damage)
What is the focal spot? Where electrons hit target (Smaller = sharper image, more heat)
What is the formula for heat units for 3 phase, 6 pulse x-ray machine? (kVp)(mA)(times)(1.35)
What is the tube rating chart? Tells max safe exposure before overheating
What is a glass envelope? A vacuum that prevents electron collision with air
What are the tube failure causes? -Overheating -Rotor failure -Filament evaporation -Arcing
What is the line focus principle? Angled target (large actual focal spot, small effective focal spot)
What is thermionic emission? Heating filament (electrons “boil off”)
What is AEC? -(Automatic Exposure Control) -Stops exposure when enough radiation hits detector -Prevents over/underexposure

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.

To see how well you know the information, try the Quiz or Test activity.
