Deportation n The act of expelling someone from a country. The deportation was successful for the team because the target was honest and regretted what he did.
Detention n The act of keeping someone in custody. (ex. A political prisoner.) He was in detention for murder.
Fugitive n A person who has escaped or is in hiding to avoid arrest. The fugitive was hiding in John's house the whole time!
Quarrel n arguments; disagreements The quarrel was like a long and deadly battlefield.
Gestapo n secret police force of Nazi Germany, known for its brutality Gestapos were no for their cruel acts towards Jews.
Foreboding n sudden feeling that something bad is going to happen He had a foreboding, and it turned out to be true.
Aprehension n fearful feeling about what will happen next His apprehension in the result of the race, caused his lost.
Intuition n ability to see the truth of something immediately without reasoning My intuition helped me figure out their true motives.
Mounting adj increasing gradually; building up His grades were mounting, quickly gaining attention from the higher-ups.
Rigid adj stiff and unbending His rigid posture made it hard to for him to complete the work.
Insistent adj demanding that something should happen He was insistent about going on that flight, but didn't know it had damages.
Devoted adj Showing strong commitment, loyalty, and dedication over a long period of time His devoted attitude was great for his future development.
Preserving v Protecting something important so it is not lost, damaged, or forgotten. He was preserving his parents ashes.
resembled v Looked very similar to someone else. The dog resembled something else;scarier.
relic n A treasured object kept because it has strong emotional or historical importance. It was a relic of faith and friendship.
humanity n Kindness, compassion, and belief in the goodness of people. In the modern days, humanity is seldom seen.
legacy n What a person leaves behind that continues to influence others after their death. The legacy he left behind was small, but the purpose, big.
analyze v to look closely at the small parts of a text to see how they work together and affect the whole. The scientist analyzed the ancient item.
background info n the (new) information that helps a reader better contextualize and understand a specific text The background information was not enough.
context n encompasses a text, its speakers, its audience, its purposes, and the circumstances that surround the text, including the time period, and major historical, cultural, or literary events may impact the context For context, this bone is really old because it was here since 50 years ago.
