climate the long-term weather pattern in an area
latitude is the distance north or south of the equator.
prevailing winds are winds that usually blow in one direction over long distances on Earth.
monsoon A seasonal change in wind patterns and precipitation that occur in some parts of the world.
greenhouse effect The process by which greenhouse gases trap heat, keeping Earth warm.
greenhouse gases in the atmosphere such as water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide that absorb much of the heat leaving Earth’s surface.
climate change A sudden or gradual change in Earth’s climate
global warming The gradual increase in temperature.
agriculture is the science or practice of farming.
fossil fuels are substances formed from the remains of organisms.
cascade effect an unforeseen chain of events caused by a disturbance in the system.
alternative energy lean energy sources that do not come from fossil fuels This can greatly reduce level of greenhouse gases.
