| word order | order of the subject - verb - object in a sentence |
| action verb | word used to express action in a sentence, e.g. Ruby throws the cake. |
| linking verb | word used to show a state of being in a sentence, e.g. Robert is happy. |
| transitive verb | action verb that requires a direct object in a sentence, e.g. Ruby throws the cake (D.O.) |
| direct object | Definition = mother Derivatives = maternal, maternity, material, matter, matrix, matriarch, matron, alma mater |
| pater (L) | Definition = father Derivatives = paternal, paternal, patriot, expatriate, repatriate, pattern, compatriot |
| e/ex (prefix) | Definition = out of, away from Examples = exhale, eject, exit, excursion, emigrate, expedite, elude, excise, extra, exclaim |
