TermDefinition
metacognition awareness and understanding of one's own thought processes
loanword foreign word or expression maintained in its original form in target language, e.g. agenda (from Latin), banana (from West African), lemon (from Arabic), ketchup (from Chinese), paparazzi (from Italian)
person / number person: first, second, or third number: singular or plural
verb conjugation representing how a verb changes with changes in person, number, tense, etc.
subject – verb agreement singular subject requires a singular verb; a plural subject requires a plural verb
sub- under [Examples: submarine, subterranean, subtraction, subterfuge, submerge, subconscious, subway, subvert]
-ism idea [Examples: patriotism, capitalism, criticism, magnetism, Buddhism, activism, feminism, racism, egoism]
de jure the way things should be according to the law
you need building supplies to build a house we have been assembling a collection of language skills (building supplies) all year
