7 type of laxatives

QuestionAnswer
Bulking forming laxative Softens the stool by absorbing water and increase fecal mass to facilitate defecation.
Stool softener laxative Acting agents that moisten stools through a detergent action and are administered orally
Emollient laxative Stool movement through the intestine by softening and coating the stool.
Saline laxative Promotes secretion of water into the intestinal lumen and should be taken only infrequently in single dose.
Stimulate laxative Are cathartic in action, producing strong peristaltic activity, and may also alter intestinal secretion in several ways.
Osmotic laxative Exert an action that draws water from the tissues into the feces and relatively stimulates evacuation
Chloride channel laxative Increase intestinal fluid secretions by activitating specific chloride channels in the intestinal epithelium
