QuestionAnswer
Population Size (N) total number of individual organisms in a population
Population Density population size within a defined unit of area or volume
Dispersion the degree of spacing between induvials in a population
3 types of dispersion Clumps , Uniform , Random
Clumps indivduals who are in groups
Uniform Individuals evenly distanced from one another
Random unpredictable spacing between induvial's
Transects lines of known position and length extending through a habitat
Quadrats rectangular plots set up at random locations or regular intervals along a transect
If individuals are closely related the population is small (Low genetic diversity )
if individuals are distanclty related the population is large (High genetic diversity )
Semelparity a single, massive reproduction event . then the organisms dies
Iteroparity multiple reproductive events over the organisms lifetime
Cohort a group of same species individuals born into a population around the same time
Type 1 survivorship High survivorship throughout early and middle life, with a rapid decline in survivorship in older age
Type 2 survivorship Constant mortality rate regardless of age. The chance of dying is roughly the same at any stage of life
Type 3 survivorship Extremely high mortality rates in early life, with high survival rates for the few individuals who reach adulthood
Density Dependent Factors limiting effects on growth are directly dependant on population density most of them are biotic factors
Density Independent Factors random ecological effect abiotic

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
