Unit 9/10 Vocabulary

TermDefinition
Enviorment all the living and nonliving things that surround and affect an organism
Pollution a waste product that harms living things and damages an ecosystem
Ecosystem a community of organisms and the environment in which they live
Conservation the process of preserving and protecting an ecosystem of a resource
Extinction the death of all the members of a certain kind of living things
Adaptation a trait or characteristic that helps an organism survive
Habitat the place where an organism lives and can find everything it needs to survive
Instinct a behavior that an organism inherits and knows how to do without being taught
Grassland an area of land covered mostly with grasses that generally receives less rain than a forest
Taiga land that is very cold in the winter and that is covered mostly with conifers
Desert an area of land that is very dry
Polar near Earth’s North Pole or South Pole
