25-26 Learning Metaphors
| Metaphor | Definition |

| ownership through repetition | consistent practice leads to deeper understanding and sense of ownership |
| spring rain approach to study | studying in small bite-size sessions several times a night aids the brain's ability to retain and recall information |
| look around the corner | plan ahead; look at what's coming up next class, next week, etc. |
| divide and conquer | learn one small portion of a map, e.g. 4-5 countries, and then learn another portion of a map, and so on |
| visualization | work on seeing a word list, a definition, a map, etc. in your mind as a way of strengthening your command of the material |
| strengths perspective | use your strengths as a source of fuel to help you take on new challenges |
| brain boxes | visualize your different FOWL skills—vocab or geo—in different storage boxes in your brain |
| changing gears | changing speeds—sometimes moving quickly through the material, sometimes moving slowly |
| compound interest | the earlier your investment [in skill development] the bigger the long-term rewards |
| pulling in the same direction | people working together results in a more efficient, effective, and successful outcome |
| marathon, not a sprint | keep long-term goals in mind, knowing you'll have good days and not so good days in between |
