What are the two layers of the dermis?
Skin pigment. Produced by melanocytes found din the stratum basale melanin
What is the skins function? Protects (mechanical, chemical, thermal....). Aids in heat regulation. Excretes urea and uric acid. Make vitamin D.
Opens to hair follicle. Found in axillary and gential regions. Makes sweat and fatty acids and proteins. Apocrine gland
What type of medical profession focuses on the skin? dermatologist
Layer with blood vessels, sweat and oil glands and nerve receptors. Reticular layer
Projections of the papillary layer. Give nutrients to the epidermis. Responsible for our fingerprints Dermal papillae
What are the three layers of the integumentary system? epidermis, dermis, hypodermis
What are the 5 layers of the epidermis (from most superficial to most deep) Stratum corneum, stratum lucidum, stratum granulosum, stratum spinosum, stratum basale
