4 The Number of Earth's Spheres
Biosphere The sphere with all living organisms
Atmosphere The sphere responsible for weather. It is a layer of gasses that surround the Earth.
Geosphere This sphere includes non-living materials such as mountains, boulders, caves and all rocks
Hydrosphere This sphere includes all of the water in oceans, streams, lakes and all the water in the water cycle.
Weathering The process when Earth's surface is broken down into smaller pieces.
Erosion The process when rocks and sediments are picked up and moved to another place by ice, water, wind or gravity.
Rock Cycle The process that describes how rocks change between three main types—igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic—over millions of years
Fossils Physical evidence of past life on Earth
3 main types of rocks Sedimentary, metamorphic and igneous
Bone Bed The nickname for the rock layer full of fossils
Minerals What rocks are made out of
Magma Molten rock found inside volcanoes
Tsunami A huge wave caused by movement on the ocean floor
Plates The sheets of rock that make up the top outer crust of the Earth
Fault A crack in the Earth's surface
