QuestionAnswer
Situated at posteroinferior part of cranium Forms posterior half of cranial base and greater portion of posterior cranial fossa Occipital Bone
The Occipital Bone has 6 Articulations
Both The Parietal and Temporal Bone have 5 Articulations
The Frontal Bone has 12 Articulations
4 parts of the Occipital Bone Squama
4 parts of the Occipital Bone Basilar Portion
4 parts of the Occipital Bone Two Occipital Condyles
4 main parts of the Temporal Bone Squamous Portion
4 main parts of the Temporal Bone Mastoid Portion Petrous Portion
4 main parts of the Temporal Bone Tympanic Portion (EAM)
Squamous portion = thin, upper portion of temporal bone that forms part of side wall of cranium
Mandibular fossa = receives condyle of mandible to form temporomandibular joint (TMJ)
Zygomatic process = prominent arched process that projects anteriorly to articulate with zygoma and complete the zygomatic arch
Articular tubercle = located on posterior inferior border of zygomatic process; mandibular condyle moves over it when the jaw opens
Mastoid Portion= Forms the inferior posterior part of the temporal bone Usually contains air cells, which vary greatly in size and number
Conical process projecting from mastoid portion Mastoid tip (process)
Tympanic Portion= Small, curved plate located below the zygomatic process   Forms the walls of the external acoustic meatus, which fuses internally with the petrous part
Slender, pointed bone projecting from inferior surface that serves as attachments for ligaments Styloid Process
What is the thickest and densest portion of cranium? Petrous Pyramids/Portion
Petrous Portion= Projects medially between sphenoid and occipital bones Contains the organs/bones of hearing and balance
The Superior surface of the Petrous Portion is called the Petrous Ridge
The ________ is located between the orbits in the anterior cranial fossa   Ethmoid Bone
The Ethmoid Bone forms part of the Nasal Cavity  Orbital Walls  Bony Nasal Septum
Horizontal Portion of the Ethmoid Bone Cribriform plate Crista galli
Vertical Portion of the Ethmoid Bone Perpendicular Plate
2 Labyrinths of the Ethmoid Bone Superior and Middle Nasal Conchae Orbital Plates
Conical projection at anterior midline of cribriform plate Crista Galli
Contains numerous foramina for transmission of olfactory nerves Cribriform Plate
The Perpendicular Plate forms? Superior portion of bony nasal septum
Ethmoid Labyrinths have Two thin, scroll-shaped projections (conchae) Superior Nasal Concha Middle Nasal Concha
