| Biotic Factor | All the living things in an ecosystem |
| Abiotic Factor | All the nonliving things in an ecosystem |
| Photosynthesis | A series of chemical reactions that convert light energy, water, and carbon dioxide into food-energy molecule glucose, and gives off oxygen (light energy to chemical energy) |
| Ecosystem | All the living and nonliving things in a given area |
| Producer | Living things that make their own food |
| Consumer | Living things that do not produce their own energy-rich food |
| Detritivore | A consumer that gets its energy by eating the remains of other organisms |
| Food Chain | A simple model that shows how energy moves from the Sun, to a producer, and then to one or more consumers through feeding relationships |
| Food Web | A model used to show how food chains in a community are interconnected |
| Energy Pyramid | A model used to show the amount of energy available in each step of a food chain |
| Evaporation | The process during which liquid water changes into a gas called water vapor |
| Condensation | The process during which water vapor changes into liquid water |
| Precipitation | Water that falls from clouds to Earth's surface |
| Nitrogen Fixation | The process that changes atmospheric nitrogen into nitrogen compounds that are usable by living things |
