force and motion vocab
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| What are simple machines? | Simple machines make work easier |
| What is mass? | Mass is the amount of matter that makes up an object |
| What is force? | Force is a push or pull |
| What is friction? | Friction is a force that causes objects in motion to speed up or slow down when two surfaces rub together |
| What is speed? | Speed is a measure of how far an object moves in a certain amount of time. |
| What is motion? | Motion is movement, or a change in an object's position. |
| How does friction affect motion? | The more friction present, the more an object in motion slows down |
| What is position? | Position is the place where an object is located. |
| How does weight affect how much force you use ? | The lighter an object, the less force you must apply to get it in motion. |
| What is gravity? | Gravity is a force that pulls things to Earth |
| How does energy affect force? | The more force applied, the more energy is released. |
| How do forces affect speed? | Forces can make things speed up, slow down or change direction. Without a force, a still object remains still and a moving object would keep moving |
| How are forces constantly interacting? | Forces are constantly battling each other. Unbalanced forces move and balanced forces don't. |
| How does force affect how far an object goes? | The more force that is applied, the further the object goes. |
| What are unbalanced forces? | Unbalanced forces happen when on side has greater force in one direction. This will cause the object to move in the direction the greater force is going. |
| What are balanced forces? | Balanced forces are two equal forces acting in the opposite direction. Because it is balanced the object does not move. |
| What does force have to do with mass? | The more mass something has, the more force required to move it |
| What are types of forces? | Magnetic forces push and pull, while gravity has air resistance and friction. |
