Regular word (decodable) would follow typical decoding patterns that can be categorized by vowel type and sound.

Free morpheme A base word that can stand alone
Bound morpheme A word part that cannot stand alone

Compound words Words are created by joining free morphemes together
Semantics meaning of words and the relationship between words.
Synonyms Two words that have similar meanings ( small and tiny )
Antonyms Two words that have opposite meanings heavy and light
Homographs Two words that are spelled the same but have different meanings bat (animal) and bat (sports equipment)
Homophones Two words that sound the same but are spelled differently and have different meanings ate (past tense of eat) and eight (the number)
Analogies Compare two things based on their like qualities right: left:: calm: chaos
Word Meaning connotation and its denotation
Denotation The dictionary definition of a word
Connotation An implied meaning of a word based on emotions or associations, usually negative or positive.
Contextual Analysis (Context Clues) can be used to identify unknown words, but it can also help students determine the word’s meaning.
