Math Unit 12 Graphs

TermDefinition
Bar Graphs Used to compare data in different categories. This is qualitative data.
Dot Plots One of the simplest data plots, used for smaller data sets. They are histogram-like and can be used for either qualitative (categorical) or quantitative data.
Frequency Tables Show the number of time a data value occurs in a set of data.
Scatter Plots Use to plot specific data points from a data set and to show the relationship between two variables in the situation. Relationship between two variables is called the correlation.
Histograms Divide data into equal classes and display the frequency of numerical data values that fall into each class.
Shape and distribution + random Left-skewed: Has a tail of the left side of the histogram and means that the mean will be less than the median, right skewed means that there is a tail on the right side and means will be greater than the median, and bell shaped points are equal m = m
Stem-and-leaf plots Used to show frequency between data values, organize data and quick finding mode and median. Must have a Key.
Box and Whisker Plot There are a 5-point summary of a set of data, they do not include all of the individual data points, and instead they only include the minimum, lower quartile, upper quartile, median, and the maximum.
Percentiles Divide ordered data into hundredths. A data item is said to be in the kth percentile of a data set if the k% if the data are less than the item
Percentile - Q1, Q2, Q3 Q1= 25th percentile, Q2 = 50th, Q3 = 75th

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.

To see how well you know the information, try the Quiz or Test activity.
