| Non-renewable resource | A natural resource that is not replaced in a useful time frame. |
| Renewable source | A natural resource that can be replaced at the same rate at which the resource is consumed |
| Solar energy | Energy from the sun that is converted into thermal or electrical energy |
| Wind energy | The energy captured by transforming the motion of air into electrical energy using a turbine |
| Hydroelectric energy | Electricity generated by flowing water |
| tidal energy | Energy that comes from the movement of water driven by the gravitational pull of the Moon. |
| Geothermal energy | Energy from steam or hot water produced from hot or molten underground rocks. |
| Biomass energy | Renewable energy derived from burning organic materials such as wood and alcohol |
| Nuclear energy | The potential energy stored in the nucleus of an atom |
| Fossil fuels | A fuel that is formed naturally in the earth from dead plants or animals. |
| Coal | A fossil fuel that is stored deep within Earth. It is made from partially decomposed plant and animal material that once existed on land. |
| Oil | A fossil fuel that is stored deep within Earth. It is made from partially decomposed plant and animal material that once lived in the water. |
| Natural gas | Flammable gas, consisting largely of methane and other hydrocarbons, occurring naturally underground (often in association with petroleum) and used as fuel. |
| Bacterial pollution | Type of pollution that happens when animal manure, human waste, improper food handling getting into the water source. |
| Nutrient pollution (eutrophication) | Type of pollution that happens when an excess of nitrogen and phosphorous are introduced into the environment. |
| Sediment pollution | Type of pollution that happens when excessive amounts of soil particles enter the water as a result of erosion. |
| Toxic pollution | Type of pollution that occurs when chemicals enter the water supply. |
| Water pollution | The addition of any substance that has a negative effect on water or the living things that depend on the water |
| Reclamation | A process in which mined land must be restored by returning soil to the mined land and replanting it with vegetation. |
