TermDefinition
Stress physiological or psychological response to stressors that affects nearly every system of the body and behavior
General Adaptation Syndrome physiological consequences of severe stress that has three stages: alarm reaction, resistance/adaptation, and exhaustion
Type A Personality A personality characterized by chronic competitiveness, high levels of achievement motivation, and a distorted sense of time urgency
Type B Personality A personality characterized by low levels of competitiveness and an easygoing approach
B - Lymphocytes This is a blood cell that is responsible for cell-medicated immunity (releasing appropriate fluids) found in the bone
Problem Focused Coping stress-management strategy where someone confronts a stressor to try to decrease or eliminate it
Emotion Focused Coping stress-management strategy that focuses on regulating negative emotional responses to a stressor
Biofeedback information about bodily processes and systems provided by receptors to maintain a desirable response
T - Lymphocytes This is a blood cell that is responsible for cell-medicated immunity (releasing appropriate fluids) found in the thymus
Behavioral Medicine A field that applies behavioral theories and methods to prevent and treat medical and psychological disorders
Health Psychology sub field of psych that focuses on the examination of relationships between all factors of health (behavioral, cognitive, social, etc.)
Psychophysiological Illness A type of disorder that occurs when stress makes a physical condition worse
Cognitive Appraisal One’s interpretation of a stressful event and our bodies subsequent reaction of it
Hans Selye Man who founded the idea of GAS
