Proportional Reasoning: Percents and Statistical Samples

| commission | a fee paid for services; often a percent of the total cost |
| data | a set of collected numerical information |
| gratuity | an amount added on to the cost of a service; often a percent of the total cost |
| Interquartile Range | the difference between the upper quartile and the lower quartile |
| markdown | an amount subtracted from the cost of an item to determine the final cost |
| markup | an amount added to the cost of an item to determine the final price |
| maximum | the greatest value in the data set |
| mean | the sum of a set of values divided by the number of values; also known as the average |
| median | the middle number in anordered set of values |
| minimum | the least value in a data set |
| percent | a rate per 100 |
| percent change | the amount of change ivided by an original amount and multilied by 100 |
| percent decrease | an amount a value decreases by in percent form |
| percent error | the amount of error divided by the correct value and then multiplied by 100 |
| percent increase | an amount a value is increased by in percent form |
| population | the entire group |
| random sample | a sample in which every element in the population has ane qual chance of being selected |
| simple interest | a percent of ann original amount that is borrowed or invested |
| tax | a percent of income or the cost of goods/services paid to the government |
