What does the Mouth/Nose do? Allow air to enter and leave body
Trachea Definition Pipe that connects mouth and lungs
Bronchi/Bronchioles Definition The bronchi are the two large tubes that carry air from your windpipe to your lungs
Lungs Definition Takes in O2 and expels CO2.
Diaphragm Definition Muscle that moves up and down to control the movement of the lungs
Alveoli Tiny sacs where the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide occurs in your bloodstream.
Function of the Respiratory System Takes in oxygen and removes carbon dioxide from the body
How does the respiratory system interact with the circulatory system? Takes in 02 for delivery to cells and removes CO2 brought from cells
Heart Definition Pumps blood throughout the body
Veins Takes oxygen poor blood from the body and back to the heart
Capillaries Tiny blood vessels where exchange of materials occurs between veins and arteries
Arteries Takes oxygen rich blood from the heart to the body
Platelets helps to clot blood
What does the blood do? Carries RBC and WBC
Cellular Respiration Releasing waste to produce ATP
Components in blood Carries nutrients, oxygen, gases, hormones, lipids, rbc, wbc, platelets, proteins
What are several organs of the respiratory system? Diaphragm, lungs, alveoli, ect
Breathing in what does it do? Inhaling; using mouth/nose and lungs which take in oxygen
Breathing out what does it do Exhaling, using mouth and nose with lungs to expel carbon dioxide
where does gas exchange take place? Breathing; C2 breath in, CO2 breathing out
What system works directly with the respiratory system to supply to body with oxygen? Circulatory System
function of the circulatory system Responsible for the flow of blood, nutrients, oxygen, and other gases, and hormones to and from cells
Function of the immune system? recognize, attack, and remove foreign calls that may cause disease
Function of nervous system? gathers/ interprets info from body, controls all body systems, responds to info to help body function
Function of integumentary system? 1st line of defense against disease, helps maintain homeostasis
Parts of the integumentary system? Skin, hair, nails
Layers of the integumentary system? Epidermis, Dermis, Hypodermis (Subcutaneousd tissue)
