Tornado

Chapter 1 & 2 Vocabulary

TermDefinition
Twister A tornado, a violently rotating column of air extending from a thunderstorm to the ground.
Storm Cellar A room located underground used to hide from storms
Ditch Hole or dip in the ground
Gravel Small loose stones or pebbles from the roads or path
Hail Balls of ice that fall from the sky like rain
Dim not bright, almost dark
Roar To make a very loud, deep sound
Clothesline A long rope or wire stretched between two points (like poles or trees) used to hang wet clothes to dry in the sun.
Trembling Shaking slightly in a way you cannot control, often because you are very scared, cold, or excited.
Panting Breathing very quickly and heavily with the mouth open, usually after running or doing hard exercise.
Supper A meal eaten late in the day; dinner.
Bargain a very good deal.
