QuestionAnswer
Saturated One substance takes up as much space as possible within another substance. It can no longer be absorbed, combined, or added.
Unsaturated One substance doesn't take up enough space
Superaturated A solution has more solute than it can hold
Dilute The addition of a solvent which decreases concentration of the solute
Miscible Two or more liquids can mix together to form a homogeneous mixture
Immiscible The property where two liquids are incapable of mixing or dissolving into each other to form a homogeneous mixture
Electrolytes Substances that conduct electricity when submerged in water
Non electrolytes Substances that don't conduct electricity when submerged in water
Dissociation The separation of ions caused by heat, light, etc. It's endothermic and takes place with only ionic compounds
Solvation The process of solute molecules dissolves into a solvent. This works with all compounds. This process is exothermic
Solution The mixture between two or more substances
Ionization Breaking molecules into ions (charged particles)
Aqueous A solution where water is the solvent
Non aqueous A solution where water is NOT the solvent
Polar A molecule or bond with an uneven distribution of electron density. This results in positive and negative charges
Non Polar A molecule or bond with an even distribution of electron density. This results in neutral charges
Electricity The movement of charges
Effervescence The formation of gas from a solvent/aqueous solution
Solvation vs Solution Process vs result

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.

To see how well you know the information, try the Quiz or Test activity.
