trapezoid a polygon with 4 sides that has at least one pair of parallel sides
parallelogram a polygon with 4 sides that has 2 pairs of parallel sides (Opposite sides are equal and parallel. Opposite angles are equal.)
rhombus a polygon with 4 equal sides and opposite sides are parallel
quadrilateral a polygon with 4 sides
rectangle a polygon with 4 sides and 4 right angles Opposite sides are equal and parallel.)
square a polygon with 4 equal sides and 4 right angles and opposite sides are parallel
triangle a polygon with 3 sides
scalene triangle a triangle with no equal sides
isosceles triangle a triangle with 2 equal sides
equilateral triangle a triangle with 3 equal sides
acute angle an angle that measures between 0° and 90°
obtuse angle an angle that measures between 90° and 180°
right angle an angle that measures exactly 90°
congruent shapes same size and same shape
symmetry A shape or object can be divided into two identical, matching halves that are mirror images of each other.
perpendicular lines lines that touch or cross and make right angles
parallel lines lines that never touch and stay the same distance apart
unit fraction a fraction with a denominator of 1
numerator the top number in a fraction
denominator the bottom number in a fraction
estimate a number that is "about" or "close to" the actual amount
