Vestigial structures Parts and organs inherited from ancestors that have lost their function but still persit in the organisms body

Gene pool all genes and alleles in a population
Genetic Drift A change in the gene pool due to luck or chance
Founder effect small group leaves a larger population and produces offspring with their trait
Directional selection One extreme is selected by natural selection. one extreme is benefical trait
Stabilizing selection Average is selcted by natural selection
Disruptive selection Both extremes are selected by natural selection
speciation creation of a new specues due to repeoductive isolation
Reproductive isolation when a group of organisms are separated and can no longer interbreed with each other
Geographic isolation when populayions are physically separated by a barrier
tempora isolation mating at different times
behavioral isolation when organisms are separated by their behavioral (song, dance)
