Study Math Quiz

TermDefinition
Left-Skewed The distribution has a long tail extending to the left.
Mean The average of a set of numbers.
Median The middle number in a set of numbers; you line them from least to greatest.
Range The difference between the largest number and the smallest number in a set of data.
Mode The most occurring number in a set of data
Right-Skewed The distribution has a long tail extending to the right.
Interquartile Range The difference between the first quartile and the third quartile
Bi-modal The distribution has two modes.
Symmetrical If you cut something in half and are mirror images of each other.
Uniform If the distribution of the data is all the same (or flat).
Lower Extreme The smallest (or minimum) of a set of numbers.
Upper Extreme The largest (or maximum) of a set of numbers.
Lower Quartile The lower half of a set of numbers.
Upper Quartile The upper half of a set of numbers.
Mean Absolute Deviation The average distance that the data points in a set of data are from the mean.
Outlier A value that is either significantly larger or smaller than other observations.
Variable The spread of a data set.
Box Plots A diagram that shows the distribution of data values using the median, quartiles, minimum value, and maximum value on a number line.
