| Henry Clay | Created American system, got Adams votes in the corrupt bargain. |
| John C Calhoun | South Carolina representative who argued for nullification opposed tariffs, supported states rights |
| Daniel Webster | New England congressman; supported tariffs; against nullification |
| John Quincy Adams | 6th president, winner of the corrupt bargain election of 1824 |
| Andrew Jackson | 7th president, president of the common man, largely responsible for the southeast native American removal. |
| Martin Van Buren | 8th president who was in office during panic of 1837. |
| William Henry Harrison | 9th president; First wing president; end of the Jackson era. |

| Jacksonian Democracry | Jackson supporters. Period in 1820's and 30's, belief that common people should vote and hold office, against elites. |
| Nullification | An action by a state which cancels federal law to which state objects. |
| Trail of Tears | A forced Cherokee journey in winter of 1837-1838 to their new landwest of the Mississippi River where many died along the way. |
