Atom An atom is the smallest unit of matter that makes up everything around us.
Group/Family Up and down, similar characteristics.
Period Rows, no similar characteristics.
Nucleus Center of the atom (house).
Neutron Inside the nucleus, no charge.
Electron Outside the nucleus, negative charge.
Valence Electron Electrons farthest away from the nucleus.
Proton Inside the nucleus, positive charge.
Atomic Number Number of protons in the nucleus.
Atomic Mass All the protons and neutrons in the nucleus.
