| Term | Definition |

| Median | A measure of center. It is the middle data value. To find the median, order the values from least to greatest, then find the middle value. |
| Mode | A measure of center. Its the value that occurs the most often. A data set can have one mode, no mode, or more than one mode. |
| Mean | A measure of center. The average of the data. To find the mean, add all of the data points and divide by the number of data points. |
| Means absolute deviation | The average distance that the data points in a set of data are from the mean. |
| Inner Quartile Range | The difference between the third quartile and the first quartile. |
| Outlier | A data points that varies significantly from the rest of the data. |
| Skewed-left | If the distribution has a long tail extending to the left, it is skewed to the left. |
| Skewed-Right | If the distribution has a long tail extending to the right, it is skewed to the right. |
| Symmetrical | The shape perfectly symmetric, because it can be divided into two halves (left and right half) that are mirror images of each other. They don't have to have perfect symmetry. |
| Bi-modal | If the distribution has two modes or humps, it is bi-modal. |
| Uniform | If the distribution of the data is all the same (or flat) it is a uniform distribution. No mode and also considered symmetrical. |
| Quartile 1 | Median of First half of a box plot. |
| Quartile 3 | Median of Second half of a box plot. |
| Probability | The likelihood that an event will happen. (Number value or probability.) |
| Impossible | Event(s) that will never happen. |
| Equally Probable/Equally Likely | An event equally probable to happen or not happen falls exactly half way between impossible and certain. |
| Certain | Event(s) that will definitely happen. |
| Unlikely | An unlikely event has a probability between 0 and 1/2. |
| Likely | A likely event has a probability between 1/2 and 1. |
| Sample Size | Describes the number of data points collected in the sample. |
| Range | The difference of the greatest value and the least value. |
| Complement | The opposite of the event. It includes all the outcomes that are not apart of the original event. |
