statistics

QuestionAnswer
median A measure of center. The middle data value.
mode The most occurring number.
range A measure of variability. The difference of the greatest value and least value.
inner quartile range A measure of variability. It represents the difference between the third quartile and first quartile.
outlier A data point that varies significantly from the rest of the data.
skewed-left If the distribution has a long tail extending to the left, it is skewed to the left.
skewed-right If the distribution has a long tail extending to the right, it is skewed to the right.
symmetrical A shape that can be divided into two halves that mirror each other.
bi-modal If the distribution has two modes it is bi-modal.
sample size describes the number of data points collected in the sample.
mean The average of the data.
mean absolute deviation The average distance that the data points of a set are from the mean.
quartile 3 The median of the second half.
quartile 1 The median of the first half.
equally probable/equally likely Halfway between impossible and certain on a scale so it has a 50 percent chance of occurring.
unlikely Chances are between 0 and one half so is
impossible An event Has no chance of occurring. Its chance of occurring is 0.
