Statistics

TermDefinition
Median It is the middle data value. To find the median order the values from least to greatest then find the middle value
Mode It is the value that occurs most often. A data set can have one mode , no mode, or more than one mode.
range The range is a measure of variability. A measure of variability describes how the values in a data set vary with a single number
Inter quartile range The IQR is a measure of variability it represents the difference between the 3rd and 1st quartile.
outlier A number that is unlike the other numbers.
quartile 1 The number in the middle of the lower extreme and the median.
Quartile 3 the number in the middle of the median and upper extreme.
Mean Absolute Deviation The MAD is the average distance that the data points in a set of data are from the mean.
symmetrical The shape is perfectly symmetric because it can be divided into 2 halves (a left have and a right halve) that are mirror images of each other they do not have to be perfectly symmetric.
uniform If the data of distribution is all flat or the same it is a uniform distribution. It has no mode.
right skewed If the distribution has a long tail pointing to the right it is right skewed.
left skewed If the distribution has a long tail pointing to the left it is left skewed.
Bi-modal If the distribution has two modes or two humps it is bi-modal.
Probability What the outcome is going to be.
Impossible 0 is the probability of a impossible event.
certain 1 Is the probability of a certain event.
Equally probable 1/2 is the probability of a equally probable event.
unlikely The probability of a unlikely event is between 0 and 1/2
likely The probability of a likely event is between 1/2 and 1
Sample size the number of people in a study
Complement The complement of a statistical event is the opposite of the event. It includes all outcomes that are not part of the original event.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.

To see how well you know the information, try the Quiz or Test activity.
