TermDefinition
Median A measure of center. It is the middle data value. To find the median, order the values from least to greatest. then find the middle value
mode The mode is a measure of a center. It is the value that occurs most often. A data set can have one mode, no mode, or more then one mode
range The range is a measure or variability. A measure or variability describes how the values in a data set vary with a single number. The range is the difference of the greatest value and the least value.
interquartile range It is a measure or variability. It represents the difference between the third quartile and the first quartile.
skewed left When the distribution has a long tail extending to the left.
skewed right When the distribution has a long tail extending to the right
symmetrical When the data can be divided into two half's that are mirror images of each other.
bi-model If the distribution has two modes.
uniform The data is all the same, and also considered symmetrical
mean The mean is a measure of a center. It is the average of the data. To find the mean, add all of the data points and divide by the number of data points.
mean absolute deviation The absolute deviation (MAD) tells you how far the data are spread out from the mean.
Sample size The sample size describes the number of data points collected in the sample
Likely When something Is likely it usually happens
unlikely When something is unlikely is usually doesn't happen
equally probable There is a 50 50 chance that it will happen
certain Something is going to happen 100 percent.
Impossible Defiantly not going to happen
probability Probability is simply how likely something is to happen
Quartile 1 It is one of the things in data points that split everything up into 25% and median of first half.
Quartile 3 It is 25% and it is considered the median of the upper half.
Outlier A number in a list of numbers that is somehow different then the others.
